Egyptian Foreign Minister: We Support Stability in Syria and Maintain Normal Relations

Abdelatty said Egypt’s position is based on its ties with the Syrian people and the importance of maintaining the country’s stability, noting that developments in Syria directly affect Egyptian and Arab interests.

He said he plans to visit Damascus in the future, while Egyptian economic and trade delegations have already visited Syria.

In May, the Syrian foreign minister visited Cairo with an economic delegation and met his Egyptian counterpart. Last month, Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Egypt, Yahya Diab, and Egypt’s chargé d’affaires in Syria, Mohamed El-Feki, also took up their posts.

Support for the political process

Abdelatty said Egypt would share any advice or concerns with Syria, stressing that the country’s security and stability are in Egypt’s direct national and Arab interests.

He also said Egypt is paying particular attention to Syria’s political process, calling for an inclusive approach that does not exclude any group. He stressed the need to address terrorism and ensure that Syria does not pose a threat to others.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa previously said in January that relations between Syria and Egypt were essential rather than optional. He called for greater cooperation in ports, gas, oil, railways and other sectors, while encouraging Egyptian companies to participate in Syria’s reconstruction.

Syrian investments in Egypt

Since 2011, Egypt has become a major destination for Syrian investment, with thousands of Syrian industrialists and businesspeople moving there and rebuilding their businesses in key sectors.

According to Syrian Trade Ministry figures, around 30,000 Syrian investors operate in Egypt. They have established more than 16,300 companies, along with about 7,000 factories and workshops, with investments worth billions of dollars. Another 1,403 companies and institutions were registered during the first half of 2025.
