Spain’s European champion squad for the World Cup will feature 26 players, built around eight Barcelona stars, with no Real Madrid representatives for the first time. The omission of defenders Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal highlighted the absence of Madrid names as Spain seeks a second World Cup title after 2010.
De la Fuente dismissed concerns that the decision might alienate Madrid fans. Speaking at a media breakfast organized by RTVE and EFE, he said: “For me, the best team ever is the Spanish national team. I don’t care where players come from. What matters is Spaniards proud to represent their nation.”
