A Palestinian man died on Sunday after an Israeli soldier opened fire on him near the Rimonim junction in the Binyamin area, north-east of Ramallah, according to Israeli reports.

The man was reportedly shot after allegedly attempting to seize the soldier’s weapon. The account has not been independently verified.

The incident took place near the Rimonim junction, close to the Israeli settlement of Rimonim, according to the reports. The settlement is located on Route 458 in the Binyamin area, east of Ramallah.

Israeli reports said the soldier, who was serving with the 94th Battalion, opened fire after the Palestinian allegedly tried to take his weapon. The Palestinian sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.

No injury to the soldier was reported.

Israeli forces subsequently deployed additional troops to the area and carried out searches around the scene, while security authorities began investigating the circumstances of the incident, according to the reports.

The shooting comes as violence and military operations continue across the occupied West Bank. United Nations monitoring has documented a rise in Palestinian casualties linked to Israeli forces and settlers during 2026, with the Ramallah area among the areas most affected by settler-related incidents.

The circumstances surrounding Sunday’s shooting, including the allegation that the Palestinian attempted to seize the soldier’s weapon, had not been independently established at the time of publication.
