Palestinians preparing to contest the 2026 legislative elections will be able to submit nominations from 26 September, with voting scheduled for 28 November, according to the official timetable published by the Central Elections Commission.
The nomination period will run for 12 days and close on 7 October. Electoral campaigning is scheduled to begin on 6 November and continue until 26 November, followed by election silence on 27 November.
President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree on 9 July setting 28 November as the date for the legislative vote, calling for elections in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. The Central Elections Commission subsequently published the detailed timetable for the process.
The voter-registration phase in the West Bank ran from 15 to 19 August. The commission says the voter register will be published and opened for objections from 7 to 9 September, before the nomination stage begins later that month.
The election will be held under the amended general election law. The latest amendment, issued in August, restored the number of Legislative Council seats to 132 and set the minimum age for candidates at 23. It also restored the minimum number of candidates required on an electoral list to 16 and increased women's representation requirements.
The August amendment followed a June change that had temporarily increased the council's membership to 200. The Central Elections Commission said the later amendment repealed that change while retaining several provisions introduced in June, including a minimum 33% representation for women on electoral lists and a 1% electoral threshold.
The election is based on full proportional representation, with the Palestinian territories treated as a single electoral district for the legislative vote. The commission is responsible for managing the process from voter registration through the announcement of final results.
The commission expects preliminary results to be announced within 24 hours of their preparation. Final results are to be published within two weeks of polling after the completion of legal challenges.
The 28 November vote will be the third legislative election in Palestine. The commission's current election page lists the 2026 poll as the third such election and says the process is being conducted under the amended 2007 general election law.
