Israeli authorities have approved the construction of a Jewish religious school in Sheikh Jarrah Jerusalem, marking a new step in expanding Israeli settlements inside a key Palestinian neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem.
The project, approved by a municipal planning committee, includes an 11 story building with dormitories for hundreds of ultra Orthodox Jewish students, along with housing units for staff. The scale of the project effectively establishes a permanent settler presence in the heart of Sheikh Jarrah.
The planned site is located at the southern entrance of the neighborhood, directly across from the mosque, highlighting the strategic nature of the project despite objections raised by human rights organizations.
