Around 1.4 million hectares have been planted with wheat, while wheat deliveries have reached 2.7 million tons, exceeding the country’s annual needs of 2.55 million tons.

The Agriculture Ministry attributed the increase to the full implementation of the agricultural plan, improved rainfall, and the return of farmland in Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor to production.

Economists say wheat self-sufficiency could save Syria hundreds of millions of dollars previously spent on imports. Authorities are also preparing to improve marketing and storage systems and support farmers ahead of the next season.
