Azerbaijan has criticized Israel's decision to officially recognize the Armenian genocide, marking a rare disagreement between the two close allies.
In a statement issued on Monday, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "serious concern" over the Israeli government's decision, arguing that interpreting the events of 1915 through a political resolution lacks a solid legal and academic foundation.
The ministry stated that reducing a complex historical issue to a political decision is unacceptable and does not contribute to reconciliation or mutual understanding. Instead, it warned that such a move could deepen divisions and undermine fragile peace efforts, urging Israel to reconsider its decision.
