Axios revealed Saturday that Iran and Oman are negotiating a potential statement to ensure full and free navigation through the middle passage of the Strait of Hormuz. Qatari negotiators are reportedly participating in the Muscat talks.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency confirmed Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s arrival in Oman, which is mediating efforts to end the war that has destabilized the Gulf and driven global prices higher since U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran began on February 28.
Araghchi met Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi to discuss developments in Hormuz, a key point of contention between Tehran and Washington. Iranian state media said Araghchi would explore “arrangements to guarantee safe passage of ships,” while Washington seeks a public commitment to free navigation.
