U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that, in his view, the ceasefire with Iran has effectively ended, raising concerns that the region could soon face another round of major military escalation. Speaking during the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump sharply criticized Iran's leadership, describing them as "scum" and saying negotiations had become "a waste of time." He added that he believes the ceasefire is over following recent attacks and renewed U.S. military operations against Iranian targets.
Trump's remarks follow fresh U.S. strikes on Iran after attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with Washington arguing the military response was necessary to protect international shipping. Although Trump suggested diplomacy could technically continue, he indicated he no longer believes negotiations are worthwhile.
Separately, Israeli outlet Walla reported that the Israeli military has coordinated operational planning with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in preparation for the possibility of a renewed large-scale conflict with Iran. According to the report, U.S. forces have not significantly reduced their military presence following the ceasefire but have instead repositioned assets, with American forces expected to remain deployed in Israel into 2027. This information has not been independently confirmed by U.S. officials.
