According to Japan’s national public broadcaster, wind speeds over the ocean exceeded 60 meters per second, or about 216 km/h, while the capital of Okinawa, Naha, recorded winds of around 30 meters per second. The strong winds uprooted trees and sent some lightweight structures flying.

The typhoon caused power outages affecting approximately 56,000 homes across the Amami Islands and Okinawa.

Meteorologists warned that Okinawa could receive up to 180 millimeters of rain by the morning of August 9, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
