Billionaire Elon Musk is preparing to return to the American political arena with a new campaign aimed at increasing Republican voter turnout in the upcoming midterm elections.

His return comes as the Republican Party faces growing electoral challenges in its effort to retain control of Congress, placing renewed attention on one of the party’s most prominent financial supporters.

Musk is reviving his political action committee, America PAC, which spent more than $260 million during the 2024 election cycle to support President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates.

Republicans face a difficult battle to retain control of the House of Representatives in November amid a noticeable decline in Trump’s approval ratings. Some Democrats also believe they have an opportunity to reclaim the Senate majority.

America PAC is expected to focus on door-to-door campaigning, field operations and media advertisements designed to mobilize conservative voters, particularly those considered less likely to participate in midterm elections.

James Blair, a senior political adviser to Trump, described the organization as a crucial partner in the Republican voter-mobilization campaign of 2024.

“America PAC was an essential partner in our historic voter turnout campaign in 2024,” Blair said. “Its return in 2026 represents a major boost for Republicans across the country.”

“We will once again outperform our opponents and remain firmly committed to supporting the Republican Party through Election Day,” he added.

Musk’s involvement is expected to strengthen the substantial financial advantage held by Republican-aligned campaigns. Two years ago, the Tesla founder became the largest political donor in U.S. history after providing extensive financial support to Trump and his Republican allies.

Republican-aligned groups reportedly have around $1 billion available to spend in the months leading up to the elections, compared with approximately $404 million held by Democratic campaigns.

Despite his financial influence, Musk’s political record includes several setbacks. In April 2025, he spent around $21 million supporting conservative judge Brad Schimel in a Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Schimel ultimately suffered a decisive defeat against his liberal opponent.

Musk also faced controversy during the 2024 elections over a contest offering registered voters who signed a petition the opportunity to receive $1 million.

Musk initially said the winners had been selected randomly. However, the first three recipients were all from Pennsylvania, the largest battleground state, which ultimately voted for Trump. One of Musk’s lawyers later acknowledged that the selection process had not been random as originally presented.

Musk joined the Trump administration in 2025 as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, widely known as DOGE. He left the administration after only four months as his relationship with the president deteriorated.
