Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr, said continued US efforts to "fuel the war" could result in tighter restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz and other key strategic waterways.

In a post published on social media late Friday, Zolqadr said that "the continuation of the naval blockade and the US regime’s efforts to intensify the war will lead to the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as other strategic passages and straits."

He added that such a move would have significant consequences, saying "the global economy, energy markets, and American voters will all pay the price."

Separately, The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, reported that President Donald Trump had authorized preparations for a new military strike against Iran aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran.

In a related development, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told his British counterpart, Ed Miliband, that Tehran intends to coordinate with Oman on mechanisms for managing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi also warned that "interference by third parties would further complicate the situation," according to Iranian officials.
