Zelensky described the attack as “one of the longest and largest Russian offensives against Ukraine,” noting it began mid-morning and lasted for hours in Kyiv, Lviv near Poland, Odesa on the Black Sea, and other population centers.
He warned that Russia’s clear aim was to overwhelm air defenses, cautioning that cruise and ballistic missile strikes could follow the drone barrage. Zelensky stressed the timing was deliberate, coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing, and urged allies to apply “real pressure” on Moscow.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to take shelter, reporting drone and missile debris hitting residential buildings. Military officials confirmed damage across districts, while unofficial Telegram channels shared videos of burning apartment blocks.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed 286 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across Russian territory. In Krasnodar, southern Russia, local authorities said drone fragments struck an industrial site, sparking a fire.
