Hundreds of members of the white nationalist group “Patriot Front” marched through Washington, D.C. on Saturday in a demonstration described as divisive ahead of U.S. Independence Day events.

The group said on social media that around 400 members had arrived in the capital. Images and footage showed large groups wearing khaki pants, blue shirts, white face masks, and sunglasses as they moved through the city, including on the Washington Metro.

Videos circulating online showed the group marching in formation near the U.S. Capitol, carrying both organizational flags and American flags, while chanting slogans such as “Reclaim America.”

Washington police said they were monitoring the group’s activity, confirming there were no reports of arrests, complaints, or disruptions linked to the march. Authorities also emphasized the right to peaceful assembly while maintaining public safety.

The “Patriot Front” was formed in 2017 following the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and split from the white nationalist group Vanguard America, which was involved in those events.

On its website, the group claims that democracy has failed the country and calls for a “radical reset” to return to what it describes as the values of early European settlers.

Experts on extremism describe the organization as promoting white supremacist ideology while attempting to present a more mainstream image through public demonstrations.

Former U.S. Department of Homeland Security counterterrorism official John Cohen said the group uses public marches on national holidays to project influence while continuing to promote racist and anti-immigrant beliefs.

Researchers also note that although the group uses American patriotic symbols and colors, its imagery draws on historical fascist symbolism and supports an ideology that envisions the United States as a nation exclusively for white people.
