The UN Human Rights Office reported that Israeli attacks have persisted in Gaza seven months after the ceasefire, killing more than 880 Palestinians. Spokeswoman Mai Sheikh told Al Jazeera that war crimes have not ceased, with 180 civilians recently killed in tents and streets through air and naval strikes.
She highlighted ongoing drone and missile assaults, warning of a compounded humanitarian disaster marked by stalled reconstruction, restricted food and medicine, and fear among displaced families along Gaza’s coast. The office stressed that Israel’s actions contradict the essence of a ceasefire, leaving most residents affected by displacement.
The Gaza Government Media Office echoed concerns, citing severe shortages in aid and fuel. Between May 15–21, only 403 travelers crossed Rafah out of 2,400 scheduled, while just 2,287 aid trucks entered compared to 4,200 expected, a 70% shortfall. Officials warned that restrictions perpetuate the humanitarian crisis and block recovery.
UN agencies issued urgent appeals. UNRWA emphasized that Gaza’s crisis extends beyond politics to food, health, shelter, and water. The World Health Organization warned thousands of wounded lack adequate treatment. Former UN envoy Nikolay Mladenov cautioned that the current reality risks becoming permanent without reconstruction and sustained aid.
