The Ukrainian military announced on Saturday that the total number of Russian military casualties since the start of the war in February 2022 has risen to around 1,340,270 personnel, including approximately 1,080 killed or wounded during the past 24 hours.

According to a statement published by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces have destroyed thousands of Russian military assets since the beginning of the conflict, including tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery systems, air defense systems, aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles, and military equipment.

The statement also said that dozens of naval assets and fuel vehicles had been destroyed during the course of the war, which has entered its fourth year amid continued fighting across multiple frontlines.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during Russia’s Victory Day military parade in Moscow that Russian soldiers in Ukraine were fighting what he described as an “aggressive force” backed by the entire NATO alliance.

The remarks came as a temporary three-day ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump entered into effect after being accepted by both Moscow and Kyiv.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that he hoped the truce would mark “the beginning of the end” of the war, adding that the ceasefire would include an exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each side.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced that he had instructed Ukrainian forces not to target Moscow’s Red Square during the Russian military parade and confirmed that Ukraine would respect the ceasefire to facilitate the planned prisoner exchange.
