British police have launched an investigation into political donations worth at least £500,000 made to Nigel Farage's Reform UK party, following concerns over possible breaches of UK campaign finance laws.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the investigation began in February 2025 after a referral from the Electoral Commission regarding donations made to a political party ahead of the 2024 UK general election. Authorities said they are examining potential offenses, including concealing the true source of political donations or providing false information to the party's treasurer.

According to The Times, the investigation focuses on payments allegedly made by Fiona Cottrell, the mother of cryptocurrency investor George Cottrell, a longtime political ally of Farage. George Cottrell served time in the United States after pleading guilty to wire fraud in 2017 and now works in the cryptocurrency industry.

Police said two individuals have been interviewed as part of the investigation, but no arrests have been made. Officials have not publicly identified those involved.

Farage has faced increasing scrutiny in recent weeks over Reform UK's finances, including questions about previously undisclosed gifts and donations. He has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that a donation he received from George Cottrell occurred before he officially became a candidate in the 2024 election and therefore did not need to be declared.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
