Donald Trump said he did not ask the Chinese president to pressure Iran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Washington will decide within days whether to lift sanctions on Chinese oil companies purchasing Iranian oil.

Trump stated that discussions with China did not include semiconductor issues, but focused on nuclear disarmament, a topic he said he regularly discusses with both Beijing and Moscow.

He also criticized a reporter from The New York Times, accusing the newspaper’s Iran coverage of “treason.” Trump revealed that he rejected the latest Iranian proposal immediately, saying its opening terms were “unacceptable.”

The US president claimed that withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal prevented Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons two years ago, and said the use of B-2 bombers nine months earlier stopped Iran from reaching nuclear capability now.

Trump further warned that the United States could destroy Iran’s bridges and electrical infrastructure and “eliminate everything there within two days.” On Taiwan, he said, “The last thing we need right now is a war 9,000 miles away,” while also acknowledging that both China and the US conduct espionage operations against each other.
