U.S. President Donald Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran could come to an end and the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if Tehran adheres to what has been agreed upon.
He added in a post on his platform “Truth Social”: “Assuming that Iran agrees to abide by what has been agreed upon — which is a big assumption — the legendary Operation Wrath will indeed come to an end, and the effective blockade will allow the Strait of Hormuz to be opened to everyone, including Iran.”
He continued: “If it does not agree, the bombing will begin, and it will unfortunately be at a much higher level and intensity than before.”
Trump’s statements come at a time when diplomatic efforts continue to de-escalate tensions, as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that his country “will accept nothing less than a fair and comprehensive agreement” in negotiations with the United States.
Trump had previously indicated “significant progress” in the negotiation process, amid international moves to contain the crisis, especially given tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered a vital passage for global energy supplies.
