A cautious calm prevailed across the U.S.–Iran confrontation for a third consecutive day following 13 days of airstrikes, with no new military attacks reported amid continuing tensions and mutual threats of escalation.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said President Donald Trump, who ordered a halt to strikes against Iran on Friday, was giving negotiations a “limited opportunity.”

The White House said Trump preferred a diplomatic solution but had not ruled out resuming or expanding military operations if Washington concluded that Tehran was not negotiating seriously.

Iran, meanwhile, announced that it had suspended retaliatory attacks against countries in the region after the United States stopped its strikes.

Trump also rejected reports suggesting that Washington had abandoned plans to escalate its operations partly because of declining ammunition supplies.

He said the United States possessed far more ammunition than any other country and significantly more than it needed.
