European Sentinel-2 satellites captured images showing the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS George H.W. Bush maneuvering within the region. Measurements indicated that Abraham Lincoln was approximately 255 kilometers from Iran’s Chabahar coast, while George H.W. Bush was positioned about 165 kilometers away.

The Gulf of Oman, connecting the Arabian Sea to the Strait of Hormuz, is a critical maritime route. Chabahar’s location outside the strait provides Iran with strategic vantage points to monitor shipping lanes. One image showed a visible wake behind Abraham Lincoln, suggesting active movement, while another revealed an escort vessel accompanying George H.W. Bush, signaling a broader naval formation.

Although the U.S. Navy does not disclose precise carrier positions, official statements confirm both vessels are deployed in the Arabian Sea. Recent reports linked Bush to a helicopter incident in July, while Abraham Lincoln was documented conducting air operations in June under the Fifth Fleet’s command.

The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group includes guided-missile destroyers such as USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., USS Spruance, and USS Michael Murphy, alongside Carrier Air Wing Nine. These ships typically operate dispersed across tens of kilometers depending on mission requirements.

Both carriers belong to the Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered and among the largest warships globally, each measuring 333 meters in length. Designed as mobile airbases, they serve offensive, defensive, and maritime security roles.
