QatarEnergy revealed Thursday that it signed an MoU with the Egyptian government and ExxonMobil to cooperate in utilizing Cyprus’ gas discoveries through Egypt’s existing infrastructure for natural gas and LNG exports. The agreement aims to study future growth opportunities and flexible commercial frameworks enabled by Egypt’s strategic location and facilities.

The statement emphasized Egypt’s potential role as a hub for Eastern Mediterranean gas, supporting integration between Egypt and Cyprus and optimizing existing infrastructure. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, described the MoU as a significant step toward enhancing regional cooperation and unlocking long-term commercial potential of natural gas resources in the area. He expressed anticipation for close collaboration with Egypt and ExxonMobil.

According to QatarEnergy, the cooperation reflects the shared intent of the parties to develop integrated and commercially sustainable energy solutions, meeting rising regional demand while strengthening links between regional and international markets. The initiative is expected to diversify global supply sources and reinforce Egypt’s role in the Eastern Mediterranean energy landscape.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted that cooperation with major global energy companies aligns with Egypt’s strategy to maximize economic benefits from its resources. He noted that Egypt’s gas infrastructure provides a competitive advantage, enabling the reception of Cypriot production and re-export through Egypt, consolidating its position as a regional energy hub.
