Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated on Telegram that air defenses shot down about 60 drones aimed at the capital, in what was described as one of the largest attacks this year. Debris from one drone struck the Gazprom Neft refinery, causing damage but no injuries, while emergency crews worked to contain the aftermath.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed responsibility, writing: “This time, the Moscow region felt Ukraine’s long-range capabilities. A refinery 500 kilometers away was targeted.” He called the strike a “fair response” to Russian attacks and the prolongation of the war. Andriy Kovalienko, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council’s disinformation center, said the attack damaged the refinery’s primary processing unit located 25 kilometers from the Kremlin.

The strikes disrupted air traffic, with operations temporarily suspended at Moscow’s four airports: Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, Sheremetyevo, and Vnukovo. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported shooting down 172 Ukrainian drones overnight across various regions. In Krasnodar, southern Russia, drone debris ignited a fire at a Poltavskaya oil depot, though no injuries were reported. Authorities closed a local road linking the area to the Crimean bridge.

These developments come as Kyiv continues targeting Russian energy facilities and export hubs to reduce fossil fuel revenues funding Moscow’s war effort, while Russia maintains near-daily drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian territory.
