At least 14 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Friday, including eight people struck while attending a funeral in the central Nuseirat refugee camp, according to Gaza medical officials.

The strike in Nuseirat also wounded at least 20 people who had gathered for the funeral of a Palestinian killed in an earlier Israeli attack in the same area.

Witnesses said mourners were assembled near Al-Balata market, outside the Ahmad Yassin Mosque, when an Israeli drone targeted the gathering as the funeral procession was preparing to begin.

Bodies and wounded people were transported to Al-Awda Hospital, while emergency crews and civilians worked to evacuate those injured at the scene.

The Israeli military confirmed carrying out the strike, saying it had targeted what it described as a Palestinian Islamic Jihad cell. It acknowledged reports that people not involved in fighting may have been harmed and said the incident was under review.

The military did not publicly identify those it said were targeted.

Additional Israeli strikes in Gaza City, northern Gaza and Khan Younis killed several other Palestinians, including women. Medical officials said hospitals across the territory received at least 12 bodies and 37 wounded people from attacks beginning early Friday, while later reports placed the overall daily death toll at 14.

The funeral strike drew condemnation from Hamas, which described it as an attack on civilians and called on ceasefire mediators and international organizations to intervene.

A ceasefire reached in October ended the most intensive phase of the war but has failed to stop near-daily Israeli strikes and shootings across Gaza.

Israel says its continuing operations target armed groups and respond to threats against its troops. Palestinian officials accuse the Israeli military of repeatedly violating the agreement and attacking civilians.

More than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect, according to health authorities in the territory.

Before Friday’s latest casualties, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the overall Palestinian death toll since October 7, 2023, had reached 73,250, with another 173,751 people wounded.

The figures remain incomplete because victims are still believed to be trapped beneath destroyed buildings and in areas that emergency and civil defense teams cannot safely reach.
