Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Saturday that it had used missiles and drones to stop four vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran has declared closed to maritime traffic.

In a statement carried by Iranian state television, the IRGC said: “Over the past several hours, four ships attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the Revolutionary Guard’s orders and with the support of the enemy U.S. military. A joint operation using missiles and drones stopped them in their positions.”

Authorities in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province said on Saturday that U.S. strikes had killed three people and wounded eight others, according to Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

IRNA reported in a post on Telegram that a local official confirmed the deaths of three people and injuries to eight others following what was described as hostile attacks targeting parts of Hormozgan province early Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard also announced that two oil tankers exploded and caught fire while attempting to navigate a route south of the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC statement said: “Two oil tankers attempting to cross a minefield south of the Strait of Hormuz, after falling victim to deception and misinformation by U.S. intelligence agencies, exploded and caught fire.”

The statement did not specify the nationalities of the two vessels.
