The United States military announced it will begin supporting a new operation in the Strait of Hormuz following an order by President Donald Trump. The mission aims to restore freedom of navigation for commercial vessels passing through one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.

According to United States Central Command, operations will begin on Monday under the name Project Freedom. The initiative is designed to ensure safe passage for commercial ships amid rising tensions in the region.

CENTCOM confirmed that the US deployment will include guided missile destroyers, more than 100 aircraft operating across land and sea, unmanned platforms, and approximately 15000 service members. Commander Brad Cooper said the mission is essential to protect regional security and the global economy while maintaining pressure on Iranian ports.

The US Departments of State and Defense also announced a new effort to improve coordination and intelligence sharing between international partners. This initiative aims to combine diplomatic efforts with military coordination to support maritime security in the strait.

In a statement, President Trump said several countries requested US assistance to help their vessels move safely through the area. He stated that US forces would guide ships through restricted waters to ensure continued trade flow.

In response, Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in Iran’s parliament, warned that any US intervention would be considered a violation of the ceasefire.
