Hezbollah announced Monday that it had carried out 16 attacks against Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon, claiming to have inflicted casualties. The group said the operations were conducted “in defense of Lebanon and its people, and in response to Israel’s violations of the ceasefire and assaults on southern villages.”
According to Hezbollah’s statements, the attacks included rocket salvos and drone strikes on Israeli vehicles and troop gatherings in multiple locations, including Bint Yahoun, Rshaf, and the southeastern outskirts of Yohmor al-Shaqif, as well as Ainata and Naqoura.
Israeli military bulldozers were targeted in Yohmor al-Shaqif with artillery shells and guided missiles, while a communications vehicle near the historic Shaqif Castle was struck by a kamikaze drone. Four logistical vehicles transporting ammunition were also attacked, with two destroyed and two damaged, along with a Hummer vehicle. Hezbollah said it also shelled a newly established Israeli artillery position in Adaisseh.
The group claimed to have intercepted an Israeli Hermes 450 “Zik” drone over Iqlim al-Tuffah with a surface-to-air missile, forcing it to retreat.
These attacks came amid escalating Israeli operations in Lebanon despite a fragile ceasefire in place since April 17, extended by Washington until early July. After four rounds of negotiations in Washington, the U.S., Lebanon, and Israel issued a declaration of intent to halt Hezbollah fire and push its fighters north of the Litani River. Hezbollah’s deputy leader Naim Qassem rejected the outcome, calling it “completely unacceptable to wide segments of the Lebanese people.”
Against the backdrop of the war with Iran, Israel has expanded its offensive in Lebanon since March 2, causing 3,637 deaths, 11,188 injuries, and displacing over one million people as of Monday.
