Berlin — German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil stated that Russia must not emerge as a beneficiary of the ongoing war with Iran, emphasizing that such an outcome would not be in the interest of Western countries, particularly the United States.

His remarks came in a joint statement with the finance ministers of Ukraine and Norway during the IMF Spring Meetings in Washington. Klingbeil stressed that any advantage gained by Moscow in this context “is not in our interest and cannot be in the interest of the United States.”

The statement comes amid growing volatility in global energy markets, following a surge in oil prices after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict. In response, the United States has issued temporary sanctions waivers for some buyers of Russian oil.
