French President Emmanuel Macron said the French Navy boarded and intercepted the sanctioned oil tanker Tagor during an operation in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday. The vessel, which was traveling from Russia, was targeted as part of efforts to enforce international sanctions.

According to Macron, the operation was conducted in international waters with assistance from several partners, including the United Kingdom, and complied fully with maritime law.

He stressed that attempts to circumvent international sanctions are unacceptable, stating that such activities contribute to funding Russia's war against Ukraine. The interception reflects broader Western efforts to tighten enforcement of sanctions and monitor shipping networks suspected of helping Moscow bypass economic restrictions.
