A Palestinian family in Gaza says a leaked image has revealed that two women they believed were killed during the Israeli invasion of Khan Younis in 2023 may still be alive inside Israeli detention.

The Al-Aqqad family identified 75-year-old Aisha Al-Aqqad and her 39-year-old daughter Huda in a circulated photo showing two blindfolded women inside what appears to be an Israeli military vehicle.

For nearly two years, the family believed the mother and daughter had been killed and buried beneath the rubble of their destroyed home after losing contact with them during the assault on Khan Younis.

According to relatives, no information about their fate had emerged since the invasion, and the family had assumed they were among the thousands reported missing or killed during the war.

The leaked image, which spread widely online in recent days, has now raised fears that the two women may have been detained and transferred to Israeli prisons without their family’s knowledge.

The family is demanding urgent international intervention to uncover the fate of Aisha and Huda Al-Aqqad and secure information about their condition and whereabouts.

Their case has renewed attention on missing Palestinians from Gaza whose whereabouts remain unknown following military operations and mass arrests carried out during the war.
