BTS achieved a historic milestone by winning the grand prize "Artist of the Year" at the American Music Awards (AMAs), held in Las Vegas and based on fan voting. The group also secured Best Male K-Pop Artist and Song of the Summer for "Swim."

Their victory came after fierce competition against global stars including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga. RM, the group’s leader, declared, “We did it again!” recalling their first win in 2021, and expressed gratitude to the ARMY for 13 years of unwavering support.

The show opened with a pre-recorded performance of "Hooligan," streamed on CBS and Paramount+. BTS had paused group activities in 2022 for mandatory military service, returning in March with their fifth album "Arirang," which topped the Billboard 200 for two weeks — a first for any K-pop act.

Other highlights included EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rie Ami winning Song of the Year for "Golden," tied to Netflix’s animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters." Global girl group Katseye won three awards, including Best New Artist. Taylor Swift, despite eight nominations, left empty-handed, while Sabrina Carpenter won Album of the Year but did not attend. Independent musician Sombr, 20, earned three trophies, including Best Rock/Alternative Song for "Back to Friends."

The night concluded with Billy Idol receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, reminiscing about his punk rock beginnings in 1976 before electrifying the stage with two of his classic hits.
