The so-called Supreme Planning and Building Council today approved the establishment of 2,162 new settlement units in several West Bank settlements, alongside accelerated construction of settlement roads and land confiscations. This step further fragments Palestinian geography and imposes new facts on the ground.

The approval included 1,006 settlement units in Gva’ot settlement within Gush Etzion south of Bethlehem, following the endorsement of the master plan for the new city that the Israeli government had agreed to establish in March 2025, aimed at absorbing thousands of new settlers.

Approval was also granted for depositing a plan to build 922 housing units in Har Bracha settlement south of Nablus, which would expand the settlement to nearly three times its current size, according to Israeli data.

Additionally, 234 more settlement units were approved in Kiryat Arba settlement built on the lands of Hebron city.

These plans reflect the Israeli government’s drive to accelerate settlement expansion in the West Bank, despite international opposition to settlements, which violate international law and remain a major obstacle to peace prospects.
