On Monday, Ali Shaath, chairman of the National Committee for Gaza Management, announced the committee’s readiness to take over administration of the Gaza Strip following Hamas’s decision to dissolve its government in the territory.

In a statement, Shaath said: “We affirm that the National Committee is fully prepared to carry out its national responsibilities once the necessary resources for its work are provided.” He emphasized the need to “ensure a political, security, and administrative environment for the committee’s tasks,” adding, “Our success depends on the existence of one authority, one law, and one weapon.”

Shaath explained that his remarks came “after the announcement of the resignation of the head of the governmental follow-up body, the dissolution of the emergency committee, and the completion of preparations to transfer administrative duties to the National Committee for Gaza Management.”

Earlier, Hamas announced the dissolution of its emergency government committee, which had acted as the de facto government in Gaza, and the resignation of its head, paving the way for transferring administrative responsibilities to the National Committee as part of the ceasefire agreement with Israel.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told Al Arabiya that the movement will not be part of governance arrangements in Gaza “the day after,” and that weapons will be stored with a Palestinian entity. He urged mediators to press for the committee’s entry into Gaza’s governance framework.

Sources within Hamas previously indicated that the movement decided to dissolve its administrative government committee as a “goodwill gesture,” preparing to hand over responsibilities to the National Committee.

The National Committee was formed under the leadership of Ali Shaath by the Peace Council established by U.S. President Donald Trump, after his mediation role in the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel last October.
