The official death toll from the landslide in Gansu Province, northwest China, has climbed to 21, following reports that 33 people were buried the day before.

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that rescue teams rushed to the site of the landslide, which struck at around 6:56 a.m. Tuesday in Renzang Village, Dangchang County.

Local authorities confirmed: “Search and rescue operations at the landslide site in Dangchang County have concluded, resulting in 21 fatalities.”
