Lebanon’s Health Ministry said 13 people, including two children, were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting vehicles and multiple locations in southern Lebanon and areas near Beirut on Wednesday, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue ahead of a new round of U.S.-mediated talks.

Israeli drones struck the coastal highway south of Beirut as well as areas near Sidon and Tyre, while Hezbollah confirmed the death of Ahmad Ghaleb Ballout, commander of the group’s elite Radwan Force, in a previous Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The attacks come despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States last month. Israel says it is continuing military operations in southern Lebanon and insists Hezbollah’s disarmament must be part of any future peace agreement. Hezbollah, meanwhile, announced new drone and rocket attacks against Israeli forces.

According to Lebanese authorities, the fighting since March has killed more than 2,800 people and displaced around 1.2 million across Lebanon.
